Borders separate people, we bring them together.
Thank you for taking some time to learn more about Baja Border Tours. My name is West and I am the owner and lead tour guide of Baja Border Tours.
I spent many years working in the television industry as a cameraman, editor and satellite truck engineer. During my career in television I travelled across the United States and to many different countries. While I enjoyed the excitement and variety of working in television news, it also meant lots of time away from my wife and two sons and many unexpected trips to cover breaking news events. In my free time at home in San Diego, I always loved visiting Baja California, Mexico with my family and friends to enjoy some street tacos or for a surfing weekend. In 2016, my need for a change from my hectic television career and my love for Baja came together when I took some out of town friends to Baja for a weekend, as I had done many times before. While showing my friends around, I realized how much I loved what I was doing in that moment - spending time in Baja and introducing other people to the region. As soon as I got home from that weekend, my wife, Flora, and I sat down and talked about making that idea a reality and with her support and some hard work Baja Border Tours was born. We are still a small company and only provide small group tours. By focusing on small groups, I hope to provide all my customers with the same attention and experience that I would provide to any of my friends visiting from out of town.
In the few years I have spent running my tours I have found that many visitors to San Diego and even some local residents never venture across the border to see what Mexico has to offer and those that do, often stop in Tijuana. Many people come to my tours with ideas about Mexico that they’ve learned from movies, television shows or negative news coverage. Unfortunately, I am well aware from my own experience in the industry that news coverage often focuses on the negative. I hope that my tours allow people to look beyond what they may have seen in the media and to experience first hand the beautiful sights, wonderful food and friendly faces of Mexico. I encourage my customers to interact with and get to know the locals rather than just snap pictures from a tour bus window. I hope that the experiences they have with me will allow them to go home with a full belly as well as some great stories to share with their friends about their day in Mexico.
I am committed to providing my customers with safe and enjoyable sightseeing and wine tasting excursions so that they can focus on enjoying their day and not worrying about the details.
Thank you for taking the time to learn a little more about me and my company. Not only has Baja Border Tours allowed me to continue doing what I love but it has also allowed me to make wonderful new friends from all over the world.
